Kyoudoushinken means joint custody. In Japan only sole custody exists.  After divorce one parent is given sole custody of the child and the other parent often disappears. In western countries, as well as China and Korea, joint custody is practiced. Both parents share in the raising of a child after divorce. All most all studies show it is best to have 2 loving parents in a child’s life.
