17-year-old gives birth in toilet; dumps infant by river

Feb. 13, 201- FUKUI —

Police in Fukui said Thursday they have arrested a 17-year-old girl on suspicion of illegally disposing of a corpse after the body of her newborn baby girl was found on a nearby riverbank.

According to police, the girl gave birth in a toilet at her home at around dawn on Feb 4, the Fukui Shimbun reported. She is accused of killing the infant and then dumping the body on the bank of the Umawatari River.

The body was found by children commuting to school. They saw something that looked like a doll on the riverbank, and told their parents who contacted 110.

Police said the girl was admitted to hospital the same day, and that they waited until she was discharged before arresting her.

The girl, who is unmarried, lives with her parents, but they told police they had been unaware she was pregnant as there appeared to be very little swelling, Fukui Shimbun reported.

Man arrested for shaking 6-month-old daughter to death

 MAR. 05, 2013 -FUKUI —

Police have arrested a 26-year-old man on suspicion of killing his 6-month-old daughter at their home in Sabae, Fukui Prefecture.

Fuji TV reported Monday that the man, who has been named as Yuji Yagi, was arrested Sunday on suspicion of violently shaking his baby daughter’s head at their apartment in June of last year. The girl was taken to hospital unconscious and eventually passed away in December.

The assault was uncovered when doctors could not find any obvious physical injuries and reported the child’s death as suspicious. Police questioned Yagi, who admitted to abusing his daughter, Fuji reported.

Yagi was arrested on a charge on manslaughter. Police said they are planning to investigate whether the girl was routinely being abused.

Woman, father held on suspicion of burning baby’s body in park

Police in Fukui on Friday arrested a 23-year-old woman and her 51-year-old father on suspicion of burning the body of her dead newborn son in a park in December.

According to police, the infant’s mother, identified as Momoko Miyanaga, and her father, Yoshihiro Miyanaga, have admitted to the charges.

Momoko was quoted by police as saying that she gave birth at her home in November 2010. She said the child died immediately and that she hid the body for nearly a year in her room. After she told her her father in December 2011, he burned the body in a park and brought the bones back home, according to Jiji Press.

Police on Friday found bones believed to be the remains of the infant. The family of six lived in a big two-story house, local media reported.
