Man arrested for abusing 4-month-old daughter

SAPPORO — Nov. 27th, 2014

Police in Sapporo have arrested a 26-year-old man for abusing his 4-month-old daughter during the summer.

According to police, Toshiyuki Miyamoto began beating his daughter Yuki sometime in July of this year. The abuse which included hitting her in the head and face, continued for almost a month, TV Asahi reported Wednesday.

Yuki was hospitalized serious head and brain injuries. Police said that on Aug 5, Yuki’s condition took a sudden turn for the worse and she began convulsing uncontrollably and fell unconscious. Miyamoto and his 22-year-old wife took their daughter to the hospital where nurses noticed signs of Yuki’s abuse and notified both the police and child protective services.

Yuki’s mother told police she never noticed abuse of any kind.

Miyamoto was quoted by police as saying he started beating his daughter everyday after he was forced to quit his job and remain at home, TV Asahi reported. He said the stress became too much.

Police said Yuki remains in a coma.

Infant dies in Sapporo after being abandoned at gynecology clinic

 FEB. 15, 2014 – SAPPORO —

An abandoned newborn baby boy was discovered at the entrance of a Sapporo gynecology clinic by a staff member on Thursday, police said. The infant was rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival, TV Asahi reported Friday.

According to police, the infant, mere hours old, was discovered wrapped up in a small towel, and placed in a paper bag at 6 a.m. Thursday. Despite no signs of external injury, the baby did not survive long.

The woman who discovered the baby also found a note, but police did not reveal its contents.

The meteorological agency said that at the time the child was found, the temperature was 5.2 degrees below zero.

22-year-old mother arrested after infant’s body found in her room

Crime May. 11, 2013 – SAPPORO —

Police on Friday arrested a 22-year-old woman after the remains of her newborn son were discovered in her bedroom in Sapporo.

According to police, the suspect, identified as Saya Kano, works as a nurse. Fuji TV reported that she apparently gave birth at her home at the beginning of March. Her mother entered her room on Thursday night and discovered the baby’s remains wrapped in a towel and notified police.

Kano, who is a single mother, was with friends at a karaoke parlor where she was picked up by police about two hours later, Fuji reported.

Boy dies in apparent suicide from bullying

SAPPORO–A middle school student has fallen to his death from an apartment building in an apparent bullying-related suicide.

Police believe the 12-year-old male student jumped from the building in Sapporo to kill himself.

At about 7:10 a.m. Wednesday, a neighbor found the boy lying on the street in front of the building where he lived. The boy was then taken to a hospital and pronounced dead at about 8 a.m. from severe bodily injuries, sources said.

According to Hokkaido prefectural police and the Sapporo city education board, the boy’s belongings included what appeared to be a suicide note saying, “I want to die because I’ve been bullied.”

Bullied junior high school boy commits suicide in Sappo

A junior high school boy from Sapporo committed suicide on Wednesday by jumping from the roof of his apartment block, police said Thursday.

According to police, the 12-year-old boy was found on the ground outside of the apartment block in which he lived at about 7:30 a.m., NTV reported. He was taken to hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

Police said a note was found in the boy’s room, indicating that he was being bullied at school and had decided to kill himself. The boy’s school reported that he had been an active member of his school club and had not been absent from school.

The Sapporo Board of Education has announced that it plans to hold a meeting to discuss ways of dealing with bullying in the future.
